Hey Minnesota! I'm headed your way. My book tour is leading me to Big Ten country this month, and I wanted to let you know about a few events I'll be at in the Twin Cities and the surrounding
area. First up is a book party at Fulton Brewing in Minneapolis on Monday, Oct. 8. This is a free event, so you can just show up. But we are featuring a book+beer+food special for $45 -- that gets you a book, a beer and a dish inspired by my latest cookbook Pheasant, Quail, Cottontail. You can reserve a ticket for that special here. I'll also have copies of my books Buck, Buck, Moose and Duck, Duck, Goose on hand, too. And as always, you can bring your books and I'll sign them! On Tuesday, Oct. 9, we'll switch to a nice book dinner with my friend Lenny Russo at his new restaurant, 925 at Hotel Landing in Wayzata.
Lenny is a fellow James Beard Award winner, and this dinner will be something special. You can get details, make a reservation and see the menu
here. This dinner is 3/4 sold out, so get your spot fast or you'll miss it! After that, I'll be hitting the periphery of Minnesota in coming days. - Fargo, ND at Cafe Luna on Oct. 10. That dinner is mostly sold out, but you can call them at 701-293-8818 to see if there are still spots left.
- I'll be hunting around Luverne at the Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunt on October 12-13. I'll be at the banquet the night before, and in the field that morning.
- That evening, on Oct. 13, I'll be doing another casual book party, this time at A Homestead Brew in nearby Valley Springs, SD. Come by, grab a book, a beer and some Pheasant, Quail,
Cottontail inspired food from a local food truck! Free to attend.
- I leave the Minnesota area and head to Wisconsin on October 20, when I'll be doing a book dinner at The Charmant Hotel in LaCrosse. Details and reservations are here.
After that, it's off to Cedarburg and Madison, Wisconsin, then Illinois, Indiana and the rest of the
Midwest.
Hope to see you out there! ~ Hank
This spring I will be teaming up with my friend Larry Robinson at Coastal Wings Outfitters for a special culinary hunt for ducks and geese this January in Oklahoma!
As with all the hunts, this one is more than just the hunt itself. I'll be cooking dinner for everyone each night, and
you can expect some special dishes based off my cookbooks.
After each morning's hunt, I will give you tips and ideas on how to use every part of the birds you bring home, cooking techniques, as well as tricks on smoking and preserving your small game.
The hunt is January 17 to 20, and the cost is $2250 all-in, including lodging, all meals, cooking classes, game processing, and a copy of one of my
books.
There are only FOUR spots left for this hunt, so email me at scrbblr@hotmail.com if you want them.

I am on the road a lot, often in wild places in search of fish, game or wild edible plants and mushrooms. If you want to keep up with what I am chasing at the moment -- and this will give you
a good, real-time indicator of what's in season where I happen to be -- follow me on Instagram. My handle there is @huntgathercook Instagram is often the only social media account I update when I am out and about. I am of course also on Twitter as @hank_shaw and Facebook as/huntgathercook as well. Day in and day out, however, most of my online interaction is in a Facebook forum I run called Hunt Gather Cook. It's a closed site, so I have to let you in, but just let me know you are a newsletter subscriber when you answer the entry questions and yer in. Hope to see you there!
